The Australian summer has started, silly season is on its way, and the country’s tourism industry is gearing up for its high season. Australia’s most easterly town, Byron Bay sits in the lee of Cape Byron, a majestic arc of land that protects a marine park and features a lighthouse that shines its light into the Pacific Ocean. For those of us who live nearby, it really feels like we are on the Pacific Rim, looking out to the world beyond.

Travel and music are great companions and Byron Shire offers plenty of amazing music to inspire and motivate all year round. For a small town, Byron punches seriously above its weight. Something in its elements makes it a magnet for creative people. Its also an incredibly beautiful place to appreciate live music and art  in a natural setting

Coming up over New Years is the Falls Music and Arts Festival,  a boutique music camping festival held in North Byron Parklands from December 31 to 3 January 2016. On the bill are Australian and international acts including  Bloc Party, Foals, Disclosure, The Wombats, Meg Mac,  Kurt Vile,  Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr, Django Django, Alpine, Paul Kelly and Weird Al Yankovic! It’s set to be a blissful way to welcome 2016.

Over the Easter long weekend, the sprawling, vast celebration of blues and roots that is Byron Bay Bluesfest will take place from 24 to 28 March 2016. In its 27th year, the festival lineup often surprises and rarely disappoints. Next year’s eclectic lineup includes Brian Wilson,  The National, Kendrick Lamar, UB40, Archie Roach, Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, The Wailers,The Cat Empire and Russell Morris, among many more.
