Not a bad colour combo for this year’s Christmas baubles, and also the colour of recent awards for Splendour in the Grass, Australia’s biggest outdoor music festival, presented by Secret Sounds.
This month, ‘Splendour’ won the silver award in the category of Major Festivals and Events at the 2019 NSW Tourism Awards. The annual three-day music festival attracts 35000 daily patrons in winter from all over Australia, generating over 60,000 in accommodation nights, jobs, millions in tourism expenditure and publicity for the Byron region.
Splendour doubled down this week to win gold in the Resource Efficiency category at the 2019 Green Globes Awards. The highly coveted award recognises Splendour’s achievements and practical solutions for water saving, conservation, emissions reduction, resource recovery and diversion of over 27.5 tonnes of waste from landfill.
“We’re humbled to be recognised with these awards, and by the love and support that our fans have shown for Splendour over the past eighteen years,” said Secret Sounds Co-CEO Jessica Ducrou.
“It’s their passion for live music which has made it the success story it is today. We’re delighted to reinforce Byron Shire’s reputation as a vibrant art and cultural hub and to generate significant benefit to the regional economy.
We’re so proud that we do this with genuine respect for the communities and environment we operate in.”
“As music fans and Byron residents, we’re thrilled to see Splendour in the Grass recognised for excellence in arts and culture, business and sustainability.” said Surfer Rosa Communications Managing Director Russell Mills.
“These are well-deserved wins in fiercely competitive categories. Writing award submissions for Secret Sounds and Splendour, describing their vision, innovation, creativity and achievements, is hugely rewarding, ”
