Our client Secret Sounds Group pulled off a double whammy of wins at the 2020 Australian Event Awards last night in Sydney. The multi-faceted music company collected the award for Best Tourism Event in Australia for Splendour in the Grass, while Secret Sounds Co-CEO and Splendour in the Grass founder Jessica Ducrou was voted Event Producer of the Year by a panel of events industry judges.
The Australian Event Awards is the national awards program for the events industry. It is the only opportunity for event professionals to compete directly across the nation, and across all facets of the industry, to establish which are Australia’s best events and event-related goods, services and innovations.
“Australia’s arts, events and tourism industries were brought to their knees this year, so these are very welcome awards, acknowledging both Jessica’s reputation and talents as a Producer, and Splendour’s mantle as Australia’s most sought after music festival experience,” said Surfer Rosa Communications Director Russell Mills.
Now in its 20th year, Splendour has grown to become Australia’s largest and most iconic music festival. Held annually at North Byron Parklands, the three-day, all-ages event is a celebration of music and creative culture, a national gathering of tribes connected through an unshakeable love of live music. In 2019, Splendour presented over 100 international and Australian acts to a capacity audience of 42,500 daily patrons.
Over three decades, Event Producer and Music Promoter Jessica Ducrou has become one of Australia’s most influential music industry professionals. Starting out in the early 90s at Sydney’s Red Eye Records and then Rolling Stone magazine, Jessica has featured as the highest ranked woman on the annual “The Power 50” music industry list for many years, sitting at #2 overall in 2019. As co-CEO of Secret Sounds, Jessica jointly leads a multi-faceted music company with 25-plus years’ experience in planning, operating and managing small and large-scale events including Splendour in the Grass and Falls Music and Arts Festival.
Surfer Rosa Communications worked with Secret Sounds Group to research and write their winning award submissions, adding to wins at the NSW Tourism Awards in 2018 (Best Major Festival and Event) and the NSW Green Globe Awards 2019 for Resource Efficiency.
