We’re working to protect wildlife and biodiversity in Australia.

Since 2020, Surfer Rosa Communications has been engaged to build an environmental enterprise called Wildlife Recovery Australia (WRA). WRA’s pioneering business is a mobile wildlife hospital that can go to the site of a natural disaster, like a bushfire, flood or mass stranding to triage and treat native animals. WRA specialises in building, owning and operating wildlife hospitals and specialist sanctuaries, creating positive welfare outcomes for Australian native animals. Based in the Byron Bay region on Australia’s east coast, we work with wildlife veterinarians, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, volunteers, corporate sponsors, rockstars, celebrities, economists, environmental groups, NGOs, wildlife rescue organisations and community groups who share our passion for protecting and caring for sick, injured and orphaned native animals.

Wildlife in Australia is under threat. Australia has the terrible record of having the highest mammal extinction rate in Australia. Native animals are hit by cars, suffer trauma, attacked by feral pests and domestic pets, lose habitat, burned alive in bushfires, drowned in floods, swallow plastic and other toxins humans leave in the ocean, and endure disease and illness, often from anthropogenic causes.

Surfer Rosa Communications believes this is a moral and ethical issue that must be addressed through private and public sector investment. It requires a deep policy shift by all tiers of government. it requires funding. It requires the government, as legal owners and protectors of wildlife, to contribute financially to their rescue, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation to return to the wild where the belong.

We are taking a break from giving expert advice and creative solutions to grow other businesses to invest our time in this critical issue for Australian biodiversity. For more information please visit www.byronbaywildlifehospital.org
